ibml Solution at Wyoming Medical Center Wins Prestigious ACE Award for Vertical Applications
BIRMINGHAM, AL, September 8, 2010 – ECM Connection has selected ibml’s document scanning implementation at Wyoming Medical Center (WMC) as the 2010 winner of the magazine’s esteemed ACE Award in the Vertical Applications category. The ACE Awards recognize organizations that have achieved content excellence with a project or system integration to overcome significant business challenges and generate measurable results.
WMC is Wyoming’s largest and most comprehensive healthcare facility. By digitizing patient records with ibml’s ImageTrac® high-speed scanner, WMC reduced its scanning and indexing staff by 33 percent -- representing more than $75,000 a year in labor costs -- decreased its records storage requirements, and improved access to patient information.
“ibml is proud that Wyoming Medical Center has earned a 2010 ACE Award,” said ibml President and CEO Derrick Murphy. “A lot of healthcare organizations are talking about electronic medical records, but Wyoming Medical Center already has taken a big step in that direction -- reducing its costs, maximizing productivity, and enhancing patient care in the process. We look forward to helping Wyoming Medical Center achieve even greater results.”
One advantage of ibml’s ImageTrac scanner for WMC was the elimination of manual page counting. With the hospital’s old scanners, each page had to be counted to ensure two pages weren’t pulled through at the same time during the scanning process. This process had a big impact on productivity: scanning accounted for 8 percent of the hospital’s processing time, while counting pages accounted for 70 percent. Eliminating this step, coupled with an increase in scanning time and speed, boosted the hospital’s productivity 800 percent.
By increasing the amount of time spent scanning records rather than counting pages, WMC was also able to boost its daily records scanning production rate from 7,000 pages per day to 52,000 pages per day, representing more than 5.4 million pages in a six-month period.
Another benefit of ibml’s ImageTrac scanning platform to the Wyoming hospital was its barcode recognition capabilities, which allow for documents to be identified and indexed automatically through the use of a barcode. This process results in less manual intervention.ibml’s page recognition functionality was another benefit. Distinct forms are automatically recognized and indexed. This increases the accuracy of page identification, reduces manual intervention and improves overall productivity. Additionally, with all of its medical records available online, fewer WMC staff are needed for releasing information, running records to the emergency room and hospital floors or faxing information to physician offices. Having records online also speeds access to medical information, in turn, enhancing patient care.
