ibml was founded in 1992 by the Murphy family headed by industry pioneer and visionary Gary Murphy. The company started with the goal of producing a transaction-oriented document scanner that could handle intermixed documents. Tackling the feeding, transporting, and sorting of a variety of everyday business documents was already a bold design goal. However, Gary knew that, in addition to physically handling documents efficiently, it was also important that the scanner be designed to capture the best images possible. Therefore, the ImageTrac Scanning Platform was the very first production scanner capable of handling intermixed documents and equipped with a color camera for better image capture.
Having 30 years of history in the development of paper transaction devices, check processing equipment, and item transports prior to starting ibml, it was only natural that Gary aimed to develop such a full-featured scanning device. From the beginning, ibml has put extraordinary emphasis on engineering our core device. In the process of creating a transport capable of rapidly capturing intermixed documents, ibml also pioneered unique systems for detecting double feeds, registering documents, having pinch-less paper movement, and pocketing documents. In fact, many of the features considered industry standards were originally innovations of ibml’s superior vision and engineering.
Today, the ImageTrac Scanning Platform is employed across several industries in a variety of complex applications: wholesale lockbox, tax returns and payments, passport applications, document archival, pharmaceutical prescription processing, remittance processing, airline tickets, accounts receivables, test scoring, and order entry applications.

There’s a revolution underway in the world of full-color, high-speed scanning and leading the charge are the people at ibml. more about our culture of ideas.
